My english creative project. Typography portrait of Williams Wordsworth, with The World is Too Much With Us, and I wondered Lonely As a Cloud.
Why is it that at night, when everything is seemingly peaceful our minds perceive any small movement, sound, or curious occurrence as fear? Is it years of conditioning watching horror films or are we naturally designed to interpret curiosity at night in such a way?
For example, its 3am and I’m about to go to sleep, when I notice my closet door is shut, but the light inside is on… the rest of my room is pitch dark. So obviously I sit in my bed and stare at the closet door waiting for it to open unleashing a small army of our favorite horror heroes. This is where the brain starts to go into “OH SHIT” mode. I saw what I could have swore was a shadow move from the bottom of the door, I’m definitely dead now… Still motionless I stare at the door wondering why the hell Im scared of a light in a closet.
An hour goes by (1 minute) and Im still staring at the door. Finally I stand up, walk over the the closet, open the door turn the light off and go back to bed.
Moral of this story - all ghost and monsters want is for you to turn your fucking lights out and save electricity.
Plus, they’d much rather attack in the dark. They have really bad self image issues.
